32 (A New Year)
So the new year has passed, many resolutions have been set, and unfortunately some have already been forgotten… Which is one of the main reasons I have a hard time fully getting into the whole “New Year, New Me” approach to New Years Resolutions. Part of it is because I’m quite happy with who I am and what I’ve done up to this point in my life. In fact, I’d say it’s safe to say that I’ve had a good run, and there’s a lot of things for me to be thankful for that can be easily overlooked on a daily basis.
Instead of taking the ol’ tried and true approach of creating a laundy list of resolutions and hopping on the “New Year, New Me” train, I’ve decided that it’s best for me to just simplify it, and continue what I started way back in 2016. So for this year, my only resolution is to just take better care of myself. Looking back on 2016, one of my resolutions was “More me”, and while I’m not 100% there just yet, I think I’ve made some pretty good progress in regards to spending a little more time and energy on myself and I’d like to keep working on that in 2017.
So for this year, I’m thinking that if I can manage to simplify it by focusing primarily on taking care of myself physically, mentally, and professionally, I hope that it should just about cover it when it comes to setting myself up for a pretty darn good step in the right direction for 2017. Just about any change or adjustment that I can think of making should hopefully fall into one of these 3 categories. Whether it’s exercising, eating healthier, bettering my career with new skills or a promotion, travelling for new experiences, or trying to reduce the amunt of stress and mental noise that has been known to hang around inside my head, I’m thinking it should all be fairly beneficial. Plus, if it doesn’t work, I can just go right back to the drawing board, right?
I’ve spent quite a bit of time recently thinking about all of this, and then… Just by a random chance, I stumbled across a Prince EA video that kinda hit home when thinking this all through, and I wanted to share it. Not that it’s a life changing video, but it does offer a fairly good perspective on change and making the best of ourselves.
So here’s to a new year, new opportunities, and a chance to follow through with all the promises we’ve made to ourselves!
